Shambhala International

Shambhala International is the umbrella organization that encompasses many of the distinct institutions of Shambhala Buddhism. It is based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and includees a worldwide collection of urban Buddhist meditation centers, retreat centers, monasteries, a university, and other ventures. It was originally named Vajradhatu. but was renamed in 1990 by Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche who is the executive head of the organization.

Not all urban meditation centers or retreat centers are included directly in the organization, some are incorporated separately but have legal or more loose agreements to follow Shambhala International direction.
