Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche (February 1939 – April 4, 1987) founded the Shambhala tradition in the West, based upon his Tibetan Buddhist lineage from Surmang valley in Tibet along with the Shambhala teachings popular in certain regions of Tibet.

In Born in Tibet, he told Esme Wynn-Tyson that he was born on the full moon (1966 edition p.25), which would be February 19th. It's traditional that tulku's are born on the full moon. It's not entirely clear how accurate the birthday is, because Tibetans do not celebrate their birthday or treat it with as much importance as westerners.
