Bodhicitta

Bodhicitta or bodhichitta is a Sanskrit term meaning "enlightenment mind". It is sometimes discussed in terms of absolute bodhicitta or relative bodhicitta. In some traditions, it is considered a seed that may be cultivated. In others — such as in Shambhala — it is considered fully established and realized, only obscured. Therefore cultivation of bodhicitta is more like clearing away obscuration than nurturing a potential seed.

According to Asanga/Maitreya, development of bodhicitta occurs in four stages and in twenty two types or examples.
